Aram Hur

Aram Hur is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and holds the Kim Koo-Korea Foundation Professorship in Korean Studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University. Her research focuses on nationalism, democracy, migration, and identity in East Asia, particularly examining how national narratives shape democratic institutions and civic engagement.

She earned a Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University (2015), an M.P.P. from Harvard Kennedy School (2009), and a B.A. with Honors from Stanford University (2007). Her work has been published in top journals like the British Journal of Political Science and Comparative Political Studies, and her book Narratives of Civic Duty won the 2023 Robert A. Dahl Award.

Her research interests include the interplay between nationalism and democratic stability, migrant integration, and mixed-methods causal inference. Notable projects analyze North Korean defector adaptation, South Korean democratic challenges, and the psychological dimensions of national belonging.

Professor Hur has received prestigious recognitions, including the Sherman Emerging Scholar award (2021) and the Gold Chalk Teaching Award (2023). She teaches courses on East Asian identity politics, nationalism, and qualitative research methods at the Fletcher School.
