Aram Apyan is an Assistant Professor of Physics at Brandeis University, affiliated with the Martin A. Fisher School of Physics. He holds a PhD from MIT (2017) and dual BS degrees in Physics and Applied Mathematics from Illinois Institute of Technology (2011). His research focuses on particle physics at the energy frontier, particularly through the ATLAS and CMS experiments at CERN, exploring the electroweak sector of the Standard Model and searching for new physics beyond it. He also contributes to detector design and commissioning for future particle detectors.
Research interests include precision measurements of vector boson production, Higgs physics, and anomalous interactions. Key projects involve vector boson scattering and charged Higgs boson searches. Recent work emphasizes leveraging CMS open data for Standard Model analysis and advancing detector technologies.
- Education: PhD in Physics, MIT (2017); BS in Physics & Applied Mathematics, Illinois Tech (2011)
- Awards: CMS LHC Physics Center Distinguished Researcher (2021), CMS Achievement Award (2015)
- Leadership: Convener of LHC Precision Electroweak Working Group (2018–present)
Publications span over 20 peer-reviewed articles, including seminal work on Z boson cross sections and charged Higgs searches. Advised postdoctoral researcher Francesco Guili. Active in outreach, including CMS Data Analysis School facilitation and media engagement.
