Apekshya Prasai is a Postdoctoral Research Associate in International and Public Affairs at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from MIT (2024) and a B.A. in Government and Legal Studies from Bowdoin College. Previously, she was a Research Fellow at Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. In July 2025, she will join Boston University’s Department of Political Science as an Assistant Professor.
Her research focuses on gender, conflict, and social transformation in South Asia, particularly Nepal, combining ethnographic fieldwork, interviews, and archival research. Her book project examines insurgents' gender strategies during civil wars, highlighting women’s roles in shaping rebel norms. She emphasizes qualitative methods, including oral histories and multilingual primary sources (Nepali, Hindi, English).
Her work has been recognized with prestigious awards, including grants from the American Political Science Association and the United States Institute of Peace. Her research bridges gender studies, political violence, and social change in post-conflict societies.
