معرفی
Dr. Aoife Murray is a Research Fellow at the Centre for Genomics and Child Health, part of the Blizard Institute within Queen Mary University of London. She holds a PhD in Medical Genetics (2013) from the University of Cambridge and completed postdoctoral research in Singapore. Her work focuses on the genetic and functional links between Down Syndrome (DS) and Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), using human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) and cerebral organoids.
- Education: B.A. in Human Genetics (Trinity College Dublin), PhD in Medical Genetics (University of Cambridge)
Her research explores how trisomy 21 neurons exhibit altered cell-cell transmission of AD pathology and protective mechanisms delaying AD onset in DS patients. She has developed innovative cellular models to study amyloid plaques, aggregated Tau, and neuronal cell death in T21 cerebral organoids.
Key contributions include publications on BACE2 suppression in AD pathology and RAS mutations in DS-related leukemia. She has received prestigious fellowships from the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation and WHRI-ACADEMY/Marie Curie to advance her work.
- Scientific Awards:
- Jérôme Lejeune Foundation research fellowship
- WHRI-ACADEMY/Marie Curie fellowship
Aoife collaborates with the LonDownS Consortium and contributes to multidisciplinary research teams integrating genomics, neurodegeneration, and stem cell biology. Her work aims to develop therapeutic strategies for AD in both DS patients and the general population.
