Aoibheann Gaughran is a postdoctoral research and teaching fellow at the School of Natural Sciences, Trinity College Dublin. Her work focuses on mammal behaviour, ecology, and conservation, particularly in the context of wildlife disease transmission and biodiversity management.
- Education
- BSc in Zoology (2013), Trinity College Dublin
- PhD in Biology (2018), Trinity College Dublin
Her research explores the intersection of wildlife conservation and agricultural policy, with a focus on badgers as both a protected species and a tuberculosis (TB) reservoir. She has pioneered GPS tracking studies of badgers affected by roadworks and contributed to Irish TB management strategies through fieldwork and publications. Current projects include the Áras an Uachtaráin Biodiversity Audit, collaborating with Prof Jane Stout to assess habitat diversity on the presidential estate.
Recent publications highlight her expertise in badger territoriality, ranging strategies, and environmental policy implementation. She also lectures on statistics and plant-animal interactions, bridging ecological research with undergraduate education.
