University of Maryland, Baltimoreمعرفی
Anupama Kewalramani serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she directs clinical and research initiatives in Allergy/Immunology with specialized focus on eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and complex food allergy cases.
Her academic foundation includes:
- BA from Emory University (1994)
- MD from Tulane University School of Medicine (1998)
- Internal Medicine-Pediatrics Residency (2002)
- Pediatrics Chief Residency (2003)
- Allergy/Immunology Fellowship (2006)
Dr. Kewalramani pioneered Maryland's first integrated Allergy-Gastroenterology clinic for EoE patients after securing an American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology research grant. Her work bridges immunological mechanisms with clinical manifestations, particularly investigating how IgE-mediated food allergies exacerbate respiratory conditions and the bidirectional relationship between asthma and psychiatric comorbidities in pediatric populations. This translational approach addresses critical gaps in understanding eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders.
Publication analysis reveals consistent thematic focus on allergy-asthma comorbidities and psychosomatic interactions, with methodological evolution from foundational clinical observations (2008) to mechanistic food allergy-asthma pathway investigations (2010). Her scholarship demonstrates growing emphasis on interdisciplinary care models for complex pediatric allergic conditions.
Professional recognition includes:
- Baltimore Magazine “Top Doctors” in Pediatric Allergy (2010, 2012-2013, 2016)
- Washington Post “Super Doctors” in Allergy & Immunology (2011, 2012-2013)
Her American College of Allergy grant catalyzed the state's first dedicated EoE clinical program, establishing a sustainable framework for collaborative care between Allergy and Pediatric Gastroenterology divisions. Current efforts focus on expanding this model while mentoring junior clinicians in complex case management.
The integrated Allergy-GI clinic operates as a multidisciplinary hub where immunologists and gastroenterologists jointly evaluate EoE patients, developing customized treatment protocols that address both mucosal inflammation and nutritional consequences of dietary restrictions.
