António Albuquerque is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture at the University of Beira Interior. He serves as Scientific Coordinator of the GeoBioTec@UBI research unit with over 30 years of experience in water treatment, wastewater reuse, stormwater management, and industrial waste valorization.
His research focuses on nutrient removal in porous systems, microalgae technology for wastewater treatment, decentralized nature-based solutions for water management, and industrial waste upcycling. Current projects include AquaClean for endocrine disruptor removal and ReMe-diation for sustainable agriculture.
Recent publications demonstrate innovative approaches to sustainable water treatment, including agro-industrial waste upcycling, geotextile filtration, and integrated algal-bacterial systems. His work consistently bridges environmental engineering with circular economy principles.
