Antonio Ferrante

Antonio Ferrante is a Full Professor specializing in Vegetables and Ornamental Crops (Scientific Sector AGRI-02/B). His research focuses on biostimulants, abiotic stress tolerance, and postharvest physiology of horticultural products. He serves as President of the Italian Society for Horticultural Science (SOI) and holds a Ph.D. in Advanced Technologies in Horticultural Science.

His research explores the mode of action of biostimulants in improving nutrient use efficiency and stress tolerance in crops, as well as postharvest-induced senescence mechanisms and the role of ethylene and abscisic acid in plant hormone regulation.

Ferrante’s recent publications highlight trends in biostimulant development, UV-B radiation effects on herbs, salinity tolerance in ornamental crops, and waste valorization in agricultural systems. His work spans molecular biology, physiological adaptation, and sustainable horticultural practices.

He teaches specialized courses on biostimulants and abiotic stress, applied photobiology, medicinal/poisonous plants, and indoor/vertical farming. He is organizing the 2024 International Symposium on Plant Senescence in Pisa.
