Antonio M. Echavarren is a Professor of Organic Chemistry at Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and a Research Professor at Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). He has been a Group Leader at the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ) since 2004 and currently serves as President of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (RSEQ) and Scientific Director of the Severo Ochoa program (2020-2023). His career spans over 30 years in academia and research institutions.
Prof. Echavarren's research focuses on advancing gold catalysis (CATGOLD) and bioinspired catalytic metalofoldamers (FOLDMETCAT). He has published over 295 scientific articles, including 26 in Journal of the American Chemical Society and 41 in Angewandte Chemie International Edition, establishing himself as a leading figure in organic and organometallic chemistry.
He has received prestigious accolades such as the RSEQ Gold Medal, Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award, and consecutive ERC Advanced Grants. He has held editorial roles at Chemical Communications and advisory positions for multiple journals, including Chemical Society Reviews and ChemCatChem.
