Antonia Otte is an Associate Tutor in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia's Faculty of Science. Her research focuses on molecular and environmental biology, particularly the intersection of these fields in understanding pathogen dynamics and marine organisms.
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Biology, University of Bremen (2016–2019)
- Master of Science in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Bremen (2019–2021)
Research Interests: Her work spans molecular biology, environmental biology, and marine ecology. She studies Trypanosoma sp. pathogens in livestock and humans, focusing on transmission via tsetse flies and gut bacteria. Her master’s research analyzed metatranscriptomic data from harmful algal blooms to identify cellular processes and enzymes involved in toxicity. Currently, her PhD examines mitotic recombination’s role in genome evolution of polar phytoplankton using the model diatom Fragilariopsis cylindrus.
Research Outputs: Recent publications include studies on cold-adapted diatoms and temporal dynamics in geothermal red algal systems, advancing understanding of marine and geothermal microbial ecosystems.
Awards: None explicitly mentioned.
Advising & Collaborations: No formal advisees listed. Collaborations include the Alfred Wegener Institute and ongoing research projects in environmental and molecular biology.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Environmental Biology Research Group at UEA.
