Klaus Valentin

Dr. Klaus Valentin is a biologist at the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), specializing in Polar Biological Oceanography. His research focuses on algal genomics, functional and evolutionary genomics, and adaptation to polar life. He leads projects such as the Strategy Fund Project Melosira arctica (as Principal Investigator) and the EU Biodiversa Project MARFOR. He also co-leads initiatives like the DFG Project on Fragilariopsis kerguelensis microevolution and the Global Ocean Metatranscriptome Project Sea of Change. His work integrates genomic analyses with environmental adaptation studies, particularly in polar and marine ecosystems.
