He previously served on the faculty of New York University, Oberlin Conservatory, Lawrence University, and Swarthmore College, and has held numerous festival faculty positions worldwide including Harpa International Music Academy, Aria International Academy, and Hawaii Performing Arts Festival.

- Bachelor of Music, Indiana University (studied with Franco Gulli, awarded Performer's Certificate)
Miller's research interests focus on violin performance techniques, chamber music, and expanding the violin repertoire through commissions of living composers. He has developed a practical technical system for teaching string performance that emphasizes building a strong technical foundation while connecting technique to musical expression. His work explores cross-cultural musical traditions and the integration of diverse musical styles into contemporary performance practice.
Miller's recent recordings demonstrate a clear trend toward contemporary American compositions while maintaining deep connections to traditional repertoire. His work with the Miller-Porfiris Duo features premieres of works by Augusta Read Thomas, Bright Sheng, and other contemporary composers, alongside rediscovered works by historical composers like Robert Fuchs. This dual focus on innovation and tradition reflects his commitment to both preserving musical heritage and advancing the art form.
Miller has performed extensively as a soloist, chamber musician, and concertmaster, with over fifty violin concertos performed on four continents. His world premiere performance of Xiogang Ye's "Last Paradise" was recorded for broadcast throughout Asia. He has maintained concertmaster positions with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra and New Jersey Festival Orchestra for nearly thirty years.
As an educator, Miller mentors students in comprehensive musicianship, guiding them through repertoire, technique, and career development. He encourages students to develop niche specializations while building versatile skills across multiple musical domains. His studios at The Hartt School and Point CounterPoint Chamber Festival provide opportunities for students to engage in chamber music, orchestral performance, and contemporary music exploration.
Miller performs regularly with the Miller-Porfiris Duo, Trio Respiro, Trio Nuovo, Con Brio Ensemble, and Phenix Ensemble. He has maintained a thirty-year collaboration with the Con Brio Ensemble, performing over one hundred chamber music concerts in the New York City area at venues including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and Merkin Hall.
