معرفی
Anton Bennett, PhD, is the Dorys McConnell Duberg Professor of Pharmacology and Professor of Comparative Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He is the Principal Investigator of the Bennett Laboratory and holds leadership positions as Director of the Yale Center for Molecular and Systems Metabolism (YMSM) and Director of Collaborative Excellence in the Yale Combined Program in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS). His primary appointment is in the Department of Pharmacology, with a secondary appointment in Comparative Medicine.
- PhD, New York Medical College (1993)
- Postdoc, Harvard Medical School (1995)
- Postdoc, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories (1998)
Dr. Bennett's research centers on protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTPs) and their critical roles in regulating cellular signaling pathways. His work investigates how dysregulation of PTP activity contributes to diseases such as cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, obesity, and developmental abnormalities. By integrating approaches from cell biology, genetics, protein biochemistry, and animal models, his lab aims to uncover novel therapeutic targets within the PTP family.
His recent publications reveal a strong focus on MAP kinase phosphatases (MKPs), particularly MKP-1 and MKP-5, and their roles in metabolic diseases, fibrosis, insulin resistance, and cardiac pathophysiology. Key themes include the interplay between kinase and phosphatase signaling, mitochondrial metabolism in disease, and the development of innovative tools and inhibitors for PTP research. His work spans basic mechanistic inquiry to translational applications, including drug repurposing strategies.
Scientific awards and honors include:
- Blavatnik Innovation Award (2017)
- Burroughs-Wellcome Award for New Investigators in Pharmacology (2001)
- Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association Young Investigators Award (2000)
Dr. Bennett is actively involved in mentoring and research training, advising postdoctoral researchers such as Sravan Perla. He has secured significant research funding and collaborates extensively within Yale, with frequent co-authorship alongside Naftali Kaminski, Xiaoyong Yang, and Carlos Fernandez-Hernando. His work is supported by affiliations with multiple Yale research centers, including the Yale Cancer Center, Liver Center, Interdepartmental Neuroscience Program, and Yale Stem Cell Center, underscoring his interdisciplinary impact.
He leads the Bennett Laboratory, which is dedicated to advancing understanding of PTP biology and its therapeutic implications. The lab fosters a collaborative environment focused on innovation in signal transduction research.
