معرفی
Antolin Hernandez Battez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Construction and Manufacturing Engineering at the Polytechnic School of Engineering, University of Oviedo, Spain. He is also a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at Bournemouth University since 2009 and a member of the Lubrication and Surface Technology - LuSuTec research group. His work bridges academia and industry, focusing on advanced lubrication technologies.
- PhD in Mechanical Engineering - Tribology, University of Oviedo, 2002
- BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering, University of Cienfuegos, Cuba, 1996
Dr. Hernandez Battez's research centers on tribology, with emphasis on ionic liquids, nanoparticles, and surface coatings as lubricant additives. His work explores the physicochemical, friction, wear, and environmental properties of novel lubricants, particularly in extreme conditions. He investigates the performance of ionic liquids in greases, base oils, and neat applications, assessing their biodegradability and corrosion behavior. His studies contribute significantly to green and sustainable lubrication solutions.
His recent publications reveal a strong trend in the application of fatty acid anion-based and phosphonium cation-based ionic liquids as high-performance, environmentally friendly lubricant additives. These studies span diverse areas including automotive transmission fluids, wind turbine gearboxes, and rail steels. The research consistently evaluates tribological performance, tribofilm formation, thermal stability, and environmental impact, highlighting a multidisciplinary approach combining materials science, chemistry, and mechanical engineering.
Dr. Hernandez Battez has received multiple research grants from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, the Principality of Asturias, and industry partners like Repsol. These projects focus on energy savings, efficiency improvements in wind turbines, and the development of zinc-free and nanoparticle-enhanced lubricants.
- 3D Optical Surface Metrology System (Principality of Asturias, 2011)
- Improvement of wind turbine gearboxes (Ministry of Science and Innovation, 2011)
- Energy saving via coatings and ionic liquids (Principality of Asturias, 2009)
- Utilisation of nanoparticles and ionic liquids (University of Oviedo, 2008)
- Influence of nanoparticles on lubricant rheology (Ministry of Education and Science, 2007)
- Study of zinc-free fluids (Repsol, 2006)
- Use of nanoparticles as solid additives (Ministry of Education and Science, 2003)
He has supervised PhD students such as Angel Del Reguero Huerga and Raquel Monge García, whose theses focused on functionalized nanoparticles and wind turbine lubrication, respectively. His research group, LuSuTec, conducts doctoral theses and collaborative projects. He also serves as a peer reviewer for national research councils in Spain (ANEP), Portugal (FCT), and Romania, contributing to scientific evaluation and advancement.
