Anthony McClaran

Prof Anthony McClaran is the Vice-Chancellor of St Mary’s University since April 2020. Previously, he served as CEO of Australia’s Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA, 2015–2020), Chief Executive of the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency (QAA, 2009–2015), and Chief Executive of UCAS (2003–2009). He currently chairs GuildHE and serves on the Holy See’s AVEPRO Board (appointed 2021).

His career focuses on higher education governance, quality assurance frameworks, and admissions systems. Notable roles include Chair of Council at the University of Gloucestershire (2007–2009) and Pope Francis-selected board membership at AVEPRO.
