Anthony Leaker is a Principal Lecturer in the School of Humanities and Social Science at the University of Brighton, affiliated with the Centre for Applied Philosophy, Politics and Ethics. His interdisciplinary work bridges literature, philosophy, and cultural politics, with a focus on Wittgenstein, contemporary North American fiction, and critiques of neoliberalism.
His research interests include the political aesthetics of Wittgenstein's later philosophy, cultural representation, transnational populist politics, and the contested terrain of free speech. He is currently writing a book on free speech and has recently published Against Free Speech (2020). His work often engages in comparative analysis between philosophical and literary figures, especially Don DeLillo and David Foster Wallace.
The two most recent publications demonstrate a sustained engagement with the ordinary in language, the politics of visibility, and critiques of metaphysical abstraction. Themes across his work include the ethical dimensions of language, resistance to neoliberal subjectivity, and the role of literature in political thought.
He has supervised postgraduate research in critical theory, continental philosophy, and cultural politics, contributing to interdisciplinary scholarship within the humanities. While no formal awards are listed, his peer-reviewed publications and ongoing research reflect a significant scholarly contribution.
Anthony Leaker is actively engaged in research and teaching, with no indication of part-time status or retirement. He is a core member of the academic staff at the University of Brighton, contributing to both undergraduate and postgraduate education across multiple disciplines.
