Anthony Heagerty is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Head of the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences at The University of Manchester. He also serves as Head of School (Medical Sciences) and holds an Honorary Consultant contract with Central Manchester Healthcare Trust. His roles span academic leadership, clinical practice, and research in hypertension and cardiovascular medicine.
Education: MB BS (Middlesex University, 1977), MD (University of Leicester, 1987), FRCP (Royal College of Physicians, 1989). He has held leadership positions in global societies like the European Society of Hypertension and International Society of Hypertension.
Research focuses on perivascular adipose tissue's role in vascular tone regulation, obesity-related hypertension, diabetes complications, and macrophage/eosinophil influences on adipokines. His group pioneered studies on adiponectin's role in vascular health.
