Anthony Harris

Anthony Harris is a Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, holding primary appointments in Epidemiology & Public Health and secondary appointments in Medicine. He serves as Division Head of Health Care Outcomes Research and Acting Chair of the Department of Epidemiology & Public Health.

• Education: BS (1989), MD (1993), and MPH (1999) from McGill University and Harvard University.

Dr. Harris is a leading expert in antimicrobial resistance, hospital epidemiology, and infection control, with over 280 publications. His work spans epidemiologic methods, medical informatics, and antibiotic stewardship, funded by NIH, CDC, and AHRQ. Key research focuses include pathogen transmission dynamics, contact precautions, and severity of illness adjustment in infection studies.

His scientific contributions include methodological frameworks for quasi-experimental designs and risk factor analyses for antibiotic-resistant organisms. He has mentored extensively in infectious disease epidemiology and healthcare worker safety.
