Gregory Schrank is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Epidemiology & Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. His research focuses on:
- Healthcare-associated infections prevention
- Diagnostic stewardship for blood cultures
- Antimicrobial resistance epidemiology
- Infection prevention metrics development
His recent work examines hospital-onset bacteremia/fungemia as quality metrics, blood culture utilization patterns across clinical settings, and diagnostic challenges in soft tissue infections. Studies demonstrate methodological rigor through multicenter assessments, validation of assessment tools, and mixed-methods approaches to understand healthcare worker practices. Current projects investigate hyperbaric oxygen therapy for necrotizing infections and strategies to optimize transmission-based precautions during respiratory virus outbreaks.
Dr. Schrank's research informs infection prevention protocols and quality measurement frameworks, with emphasis on antimicrobial stewardship and diagnostic test utilization.
