Dr. Anthony Chow is a Professor and Director of the School of Information at San Jose State University (SJSU). With over 21 years of academic experience, he holds a PhD in Instructional Systems Design from Florida State University and has served in leadership roles across multiple institutions, including directing online learning programs and managing usability labs. His research focuses on the intersection of technology, information systems, and organizational management, emphasizing usability in digital environments and information-seeking behaviors. Notable contributions include studies on library website usability, the impact of public libraries on quality of life, and leadership in LIS education.
Education: PhD (Instructional Systems Design, Florida State University, 2008), MS (Educational Psychology, Florida State University, 1998), BA (Developmental Psychology, San Francisco State University, 1992).
Research Interests: eLearning, instructional design, leadership in LIS, usability/UX, data analytics, and technology integration. His work bridges cognitive psychology, performance systems, and information science.
Awards: 2017 ALA Writing Award (YALSA) for How Usable are School Library Websites?. Over $3 million in grants and contracts for research projects.
Leadership Roles: Director of SJSU iSchool, former Associate/Assistant Professor at UNC Greensboro, and leadership positions in the UNC System and UNCG Faculty Senate. Authored books and numerous peer-reviewed publications.
Labs/Teams: Directed usability labs at Florida State and led initiatives in strategic planning and library assessment through his consultancy, Strategic Performance Systems.
