Anthony Alvarez is an Associate Professor of Sociology at California State University, Fullerton, where he also serves as Undergraduate Advisor. His research examines economic sociology, inequality, consumer finance, and social policy through both contemporary and historical lenses.

His current research investigates household use of payday loans within broader financial behaviors, financial networks, and the development of payday lending regulations. Additional research interests include historical analysis of income tax policy and monetary policy discourses.
Publications reveal interdisciplinary approaches combining economic sociology, policy analysis, and inequality studies, with recent work examining financial citizenship concepts and relational lending practices.
Teaches Statistics for Social Sciences, Research Methods, Social Inequality, and Sociology of Money.
