Ansis Sauka is an Associate Professor and Head of Singing Class in the Department of Choral Conducting at the Jāzepa Vītola Latvian Academy of Music. He is a composer and bass singer with extensive performance experience in opera, choral, and chamber music repertoire.
His educational background includes:
- Piano Department, Latvian Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (1979–1983)
- Vocal Department, Latvian Academy of Music (1987–1992)
- Composition Department studies (Pauls Dambis)
- Master's degree in Vocal Department (1993–1995)
- Advanced vocal training with Bruce Abel (1994, Germany) and Rachel Shulova (1999, Israel)
Professor Sauka's artistic research centers on vocal music traditions, specializing in choral composition and performance practice. His creative work focuses on Latvian vocal heritage while incorporating international influences, demonstrated through compositions performed globally. As an educator, he bridges historical performance practices with contemporary pedagogical approaches across multiple teaching positions.
His performance career includes significant roles at the Latvian National Opera (1995–1998) such as Salieri in Rimsky-Korsakov's Mozart and Salieri, bass roles in Verdi's Rigoletto and Puccini's Turandot, alongside performances of major choral works by Bach, Mozart, and Bruckner. He maintains active teaching roles at Riga Gymnasium No. 1 youth choir "Kamēr..." (since 1994) and the State Academic Choir Latvia (since 1998).
Mr. Sauka holds membership in the Riga Latvian Society and honorary membership in the Georgian Society Samshoblo.
