Jim Henry is an Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. He conducts the University Singers and Vocal Point, while teaching courses in choral methods, conducting, and arranging. His career spans academic, compositional, and performance achievements in vocal music education and choral arts.
- Education: Ph.D. in Music Composition (Washington University), degrees in Vocal Music Education and Music Theory
- Performance: Two-time Barbershop Harmony Society International Quartet Champion (bass in Crossroads, 2009) and four-time International Chorus Champion director
- Composition: Recipient of awards for songs and piano pieces, composer-in-residence at Central Visual and Performing Arts High School
Dr. Henry’s research and practice focus on choral conducting, vocal pedagogy, and music education. He has contributed to the Encyclopedia of American Gospel Music and Grove Dictionary of American Music, and his work bridges classical and barbershop traditions. His mentorship includes the “Music, Words, Opera” program by Opera Theatre of St. Louis.

Dr. Henry’s global presence includes conducting international honors choirs, lecturing, and coaching. He will make his Carnegie Hall conducting debut in June, reflecting his ongoing influence in choral arts.
