Andris Vecumnieks is an Associate Professor at the Latvian Academy of Music, serving as Head of the Department of Orchestra Conducting. He holds administrative roles, including former Pro-rector for Academic Affairs (2002–2008). His career spans conducting, composition, and academic leadership. Born in Riga (1964), he studied at the Latvian State Conservatory (1987), Latvian Academy of Music (MA 1992), and Stockholm Royal College of Music (1993).

Research focuses on orchestral conducting, composition, and musicology. He leads orchestras at the Latvian Academy of Music and Emils Dārziņš College of Music, collaborating with the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and chamber ensemble Sinfonia Concertante. Notable performances include the ballet La Sylphide (2001) at the Latvian National Opera and international competitions like Unga Artisten (Sweden, 2000–2001).
Recipient of the Sergei Prokofiev International Conducting Competition award (2003) and laureate in Latvian choir/chamber music competitions. His work bridges academic teaching, administrative leadership, and artistic performance.
