Anru Lee is a Professor at the Department of Anthropology, John Jay College, City University of New York (CUNY). Her expertise spans cultural anthropology, focusing on Asia-Pacific societies, gender dynamics, and urban studies.

Her research examines capitalism, modernity, gender, and urban anthropology in Taiwan and broader Chinese societies. Recent fieldwork explores how Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) systems intersect with technology, governance, and national identity in Taiwan.
Anru Lee’s scholarly work includes monographs like Haunted Modernities (2023) and In the Name of Harmony and Prosperity (2004), alongside co-editing the Brill Encyclopedia of Taiwan Studies (Gender and Women’s Studies Section). Her upcoming book investigates labor, haunting, and spatial memory in postindustrial Taiwan.
