Anouschka R. Hof is an Associate Professor at the Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Group of Wageningen University & Research in the Netherlands. Her research focuses on understanding how anthropogenic impacts affect ecological processes that determine wildlife distribution at landscape scales, with particular emphasis on mammals and birds in cold-climate regions and boreal forest ecosystems. She combines advanced modeling techniques with fieldwork to assess species responses to environmental changes and develop effective conservation strategies.
Dr. Hof's research interests span landscape ecology, climate change impacts on biodiversity, species distribution modeling, and conservation planning. She investigates how climate change may affect species distributions in future landscapes, with significant work on subarctic and arctic species that are especially vulnerable to changing conditions. Her research also examines the impact of climate change on forest ecosystems and the species they harbor, using landscape simulation models to understand habitat restoration needs for species of conservation concern.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals consistent themes in landscape ecology, climate change impacts, and conservation applications. Her work spans multiple ecosystems from boreal forests to grasslands, employing advanced modeling techniques to predict species responses to environmental changes. A significant portion of her research focuses on developing practical conservation strategies, including forest restoration planning, protected area effectiveness, and management of endangered species like the black guillemot in the Baltic Sea region.

Dr. Hof leads an ongoing project aimed at the conservation of the locally endangered black guillemot population in the Baltic Sea region in collaboration with The Ume River Delta Field Station. Her research has attracted significant media attention, including coverage by BBC, Dutch national radio (NPO Radio 1), and international scientific outlets. She has secured funding from sources including the King Carl XVI Gustafs 50-year fund for science, technology and environment.
Her work spans multiple research teams and laboratories, including collaborations with the Forest Ecosystem and Landscape Ecology lab at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Landscape Ecology group at Umeå University, and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. She maintains active field research sites in the Baltic Sea region for seabird monitoring and continues collaborative work on boreal forest ecosystems across multiple countries.
