Dr. Annika van Baar is an Assistant Professor at the Criminology department of the School of Law at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Her research focuses on corporate involvement in atrocity crimes, trends in regulating such involvement, and reputational damage for human rights violations. She also researches business reactions to new legislation like the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD).
Her research interests span corporate crime, human rights legislation, and the criminology of international crimes. She co-supervises PhD projects on waste colonialism and ESG-related crimes.
Dr. van Baar's recent publications examine regulatory frameworks for atrocity crimes, corporate due diligence requirements, and theoretical models of corporate criminality. Her work consistently addresses the intersection of economic activities and human rights protection.

- ASC Division of White-Collar and Corporate Crime Outstanding Book Chapter Award (2023)
Dr. van Baar teaches courses on corporate involvement in international crimes and statistics, and supervises bachelor's and master's theses. She serves on the editorial board of Cultuur en Criminaliteit.
