Annie May Johnston is an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Studio Art (Print) at the University of Texas at Austin. She serves as the Print Area head, chairs the Guest Artist in Print Program, and is the faculty sponsor for the UT Riso Room. Her artistic practice explores the margins of printmaking, integrating traditional techniques like lithography with new technologies. She holds an MFA in Print from the University of Texas at Austin and undergraduate degrees in Classics and Psychology from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Johnston has exhibited work internationally, including in Basel, New York, Houston, and London. Her current in-progress project, Dark Side Moon Collages and Star Tear Necklaces (2024–2025), reflects her experimental approach to material and conceptual boundaries. She previously worked as an assistant printmaker at Michael Woolworth Publications in Paris, specializing in traditional lithography.
Her academic roles emphasize pedagogy and curatorial initiatives, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue in printmaking through programs like the UT Riso Room, which supports risograph printing as an accessible art medium.
