Dr. Pedersen also serves as Head of Studies for the Master's programme in Animal Science since 2019 and as Head of the Section for Production, Nutrition and Health since 2022.
Dr. Pedersen's educational background includes a Cand. agro. (1990) and a PhD (1993), both from the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Denmark. Her career path includes:
- 1990-1993: Post-graduate scholarship holder at Danish Research Academy
- 1993-1995: Research Assistant/Researcher at National Institute of Animal Science
- 1995-2017: Consultant/Senior Project Leader/Senior Scientist at SEGES Pig Research Centre
- 2017-present: Associate Professor at University of Copenhagen
Her research primarily focuses on pig nutrition and feeding, with significant contributions to understanding gastric ulcers in nursery pigs, feed efficiency, meat quality genetics, and animal welfare. Dr. Pedersen has published extensively on topics related to swine production, including studies on gastric ulceration risk factors, feeding behavior in affected pigs, and the relationship between gastric content fluidity and ulcer development.
Dr. Pedersen's recent work demonstrates a strong integration of genomic, transcriptomic, and phenotypic approaches to address challenges in animal production. Her 2024 publication on QTL for lean meat percentage and 2022 work on residual feed intake showcase her expertise in applying advanced genetic and molecular techniques to improve production traits. She has also expanded her research scope to include obesity in pet rabbits, demonstrating breadth in her animal nutrition expertise.
Her scientific contributions have been recognized through citations across multiple publications, with several papers accumulating significant citations in Scopus. Her work shows strong collaboration with researchers across institutions, as evidenced by multi-author publications.
As Head of Studies for the Master's programme in Animal Science, Dr. Pedersen plays a key role in shaping the next generation of animal scientists.
