Annette Neuman serves as Associate Professor of Chemistry at Emory University's Oxford College. She holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Davidson College (2004) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Emory University (2013), with dissertation research focused on antiviral compound development for hepatitis C and HIV therapies. Dr. Neuman joined Oxford College in 2012 and serves as the campus pre-health advisor.

Her research spans two primary domains: developing novel synthetic methods for medicinally relevant heterocycles (triazoles and thiadiazoles) using C–H activation techniques, and innovating chemistry education through curriculum design focused on structure-function relationships. She employs backward design principles to create student-centered courses that help learners develop expert thinking patterns in organic chemistry. Her educational scholarship particularly targets non-science majors through integrated lab-lecture projects using natural medicinal sources.
Dr. Neuman's scholarly output demonstrates consistent integration of synthetic organic chemistry with pedagogical innovation. Her publications reveal strong emphasis on translating complex medicinal chemistry concepts into accessible educational formats while maintaining rigorous synthetic methodology development. The recurring themes across her work include medicinal applications of heterocyclic compounds, student-centered curriculum design, and bridging pharmaceutical research with undergraduate education.
As an educator, she has mentored ten undergraduate researchers through Oxford's Research Scholars and SURE programs, presenting collaborative work at regional ACS meetings. Her teaching portfolio includes Principles of Reactivity (Chemistry 202Q/L) and Advanced Reactivity (Chemistry 203Q/L) courses, along with the Discovery 101Q course 'From Peppermint Oil to Penicillin: Natural Sources of Medicine.'
Outside academic duties, Dr. Neuman resides in Atlanta with her husband Rob, children Michael and Virginia, and their dog Biscuit, enjoying running and reading in her spare time.
