Associate Professor Annette Bromdal is an academic at the University of Southern Queensland, holding a position in the School of Education within the Department of Sport, Health and Physical Education. Her roles include Associate Professor, Director of Non-Initial Teacher Education Programs, and Academic Team Leader. Annette specializes in health promotion, gender, and sexuality research, particularly focusing on LGBTQIA+ communities, carceral settings, and intersectional frameworks.
She earned a Master of Social Science (MSocSc) from Södertörn University (2007) and a PhD from Monash University (2013). Her research is globally recognized, addressing transgender health justice, prison system reforms, and LGBTQIA+ aging, with over AUD$6.3 million in grant funding.
Her research interests include critical intersex studies, trans discourses in carceral settings, and gender equity in education and sports. Her work has influenced policy changes in corrections departments and health organizations, with notable contributions to the UN report on transgender prisoners and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health Standards of Care.
Professional affiliations include the Australian Sociological Association and the Queensland Queering Education Consultative Committee. Annette has supervised over 27 students to completion since 2017, with current supervision of 11 HDR students.
