Associate Professor Annette Bos is Deputy Director (Education) at Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI), a leading interdisciplinary institute addressing global sustainable development challenges. She focuses on fostering collaboration, leadership, and transformative education to drive sustainable responses to complex issues. Her roles include leading the Sustainable Development Education program, coordinating the Master of Environment and Sustainability's Leadership for Sustainable Development specialisation, and directing the PhD program at MSDI.
Education: PhD in Environmental Sociology (Monash University), MSc in Water and Waste Engineering (Loughborough University), BSc in Civil Engineering (HTS, Netherlands).
Research Interests: Urban water governance, sustainability transitions, social learning processes, and educational strategies for sustainability. Her work explores how governance systems can adapt to improve human and environmental health, particularly in the Global South.
Key Projects: Includes the Fire to Flourish initiative (2022–2025) and collaborations on energy workforce development and water-sensitive urban planning. She has led over 10 projects since 2014, emphasizing transdisciplinary approaches and policy innovation.
Awards: Recipient of the Australian Award for University Teaching (2021), Banksia Research and Academia Award (2019), and the Peter Kershaw Prize (2013). Her work spans academic contributions and practical impact in education and policy.
Grants and Industry Partnerships: Collaborations with Monash University, Griffith University, and organizations like ANZSOG and VicHealth. Her research bridges academia and industry to address real-world challenges.
