Anneke den Hollander is currently Head of Functional Genomics and Cellular Genomics at the Genomic Research Center in Cambridge, MA, USA. Previously, she served as Full professor (90% Ophthalmology, 10% Human Genetics) at Radboudumc, Nijmegen, Netherlands from 2014 to 2021, and Associate professor from 2009–2014. Her research focuses on ophthalmology, functional genomics, and inherited retinal dystrophies.
Education: PhD (cum laude) in Human Genetics from Radboud University (2002), MSc in Biomedical Sciences from Leiden University (1996).
Research Interests: Disease modeling, genomics, age-related macular degeneration, and serum biomarkers. Her work bridges clinical ophthalmology with genomic technologies to understand inherited eye disorders and develop diagnostic tools.
Awards: Includes the 2023 President’s Award (AbbVie), 2017 VICI Award (NWO), and 2015 Cogan Award (ARVO). She has secured over €5.2M in personal research funding and contributed to €14.9M as co-applicant.
Leadership & Grants: Founded Radboudumc’s Expert Center for Hereditary Blindness (2015). Served on NWO’s Translational Adult Stem Cell Research review committee and editorial boards for PLoS ONE and Molecular Vision. Organized international conferences on genetic eye diseases and therapeutic developments.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Functional Genomics team at Genomic Research Center and previously directed ophthalmogenetic research at Radboudumc. Supervised 15 completed PhD students (2 cum laude) and currently advises 9 doctoral researchers.
