Annecoos Wiersema serves as the Associate Dean of Graduate and International Legal Programs and Catherine Boggs Endowed Faculty Research Scholar at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, where she is a Professor of Law. Her academic leadership includes roles as Executive Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (2022–2024) and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs (2019–2022). She holds an SJD from Harvard Law School and an LL.B. from the London School of Economics. Her research focuses on international environmental law, wildlife conservation, and biodiversity, with a specialization in CITES and multilateral environmental agreements.
Prof. Wiersema has taught at Harvard Law School as a Visiting Professor (2024–2025) and has held prior roles at The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law and Arnold & Porter LLP. She is a member of the Wildlife Justice Commission's Accountability Panel and advises the Denver Journal of International Law and Policy. Her awards include the 2022 Robert B. Yegge Excellence in Teaching Award and recognition as Most Outstanding Faculty by students in 2015.
Her research bridges legal frameworks and ecological challenges, addressing topics like wildlife trade, climate change, and international governance. Her work emphasizes the role of science in law, adaptive management, and the interplay between markets and conservation.
