Anne Stires, MEd, is an Adjunct Professor at Antioch University's Antioch New England Graduate School. She is the Founder and Education Director of the Juniper Hill School for Place-Based Education in Alna, Maine, and teaches Risk Management in Nature-Based Early Childhood Programs and Natural History courses for Antioch University. Her work spans environmental stewardship, curriculum development, and nature-based education.
- Education: MEd in Elementary and Early Childhood Certification (ME and NH), BA in Biology and English (Hamilton College), and marine research training (Northeastern University).
Her research focuses on nature-based and place-based pedagogies, emphasizing outdoor learning, childhood friendships, and vernal pools. She has authored chapters in key handbooks and contributed to journals like Green Teacher Magazine and Marine Biology. Stires integrates risk-based activities into nature-based programming and leads teacher training at Juniper Hill School.
She has presented at numerous conferences, including the Natural Start Alliance and Antioch University's "In Bloom" series, and served on committees for environmental education. Her work bridges marine biology and early childhood education, promoting holistic learning through environmental engagement.
