Anne Scherer

Anne Scherer is a Term Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at George Mason University. Her academic journey began with a PhD in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) from Indiana University in 2004, followed by seven years of teaching cell biology at a liberal arts college in Minnesota.

• Research Focus: Developmental biology (Drosophila oogenesis, dorsal-ventral axis establishment via cell-cell signaling), genetics, and bacteriophage discovery/genomics.
• Teaching: Offers courses in genetics, phage discovery, phage genomics, and developmental genetics.
• Program Involvement: Actively contributes to the HHMI-sponsored SEA-PHAGES initiative, which engages students in discovery-based research on soil bacteriophage isolation and analysis.
