Evdokia Kastanos

Evdokia Kastanos serves as a Professor and BIOL 150 coordinator in the Biology Department at Montgomery College, where she instructs the Principles of Biology I course (section 32898) for Spring Semester 2025. She actively leads an SEA-PHAGES program section focused on phage discovery and microbiology using Arthrobacter globiformis as the host bacterium, engaging 13 undergraduate students in authentic research.

Her research centers on bacteriophage genomics and evolutionary science, integrating hands-on phage discovery with bioinformatics analysis through the HHMI-funded SEA-PHAGES initiative. This work bridges microbial genetics with undergraduate education, emphasizing experimental design in phage isolation and characterization.

As BIOL 150 coordinator, Professor Kastanos shapes curriculum development while participating in national SEA events including the Phage Discovery Workshop, Phage Genomics Workshop, and annual SEA Symposium.
