Anne Prescott is an Associate Professor and Casual Academic in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She serves as the coordinator of primary and secondary mathematics teacher education programs as well as the Master of Teaching (secondary) program. With a background as a secondary school mathematics teacher, Dr. Prescott has dedicated her career to improving mathematics education and teacher development.
Dr. Prescott's research focuses on student misconceptions in mathematics, teaching practices in schools, challenges for beginning teachers, and STEM/STEAM education. She has led significant projects including the Australian Mathematics and Science Partnership Program Grant ($1,919,500) for the "Maths Inside" project (2015-2018), which developed resources to demonstrate the importance of mathematics in everyday life. Her work extends internationally through collaborations in Nepal, where she has worked with teachers in remote areas affected by the 2015 earthquake, and for which she received the UTS Human Rights Award for Social Inclusion in 2014.
Her scholarly output demonstrates a consistent focus on mathematics education, teacher development, and innovative teaching approaches. Dr. Prescott has published extensively on topics including mobile technology in mathematics classrooms, professional development for rural and remote teachers, and factors influencing early career teacher retention. Her research shows a strong commitment to practical applications that improve classroom teaching and student engagement with mathematics.
