Anne K. Phillips is a Professor and Associate Head in the Department of English at Kansas State University, where she also serves as Graduate Faculty. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Connecticut (1993). Her research focuses on American children's and adolescent literature, with specialties in illustration studies, Louisa May Alcott, and Laura Ingalls Wilder. She has co-edited major works such as The Louisa May Alcott Encyclopedia and Critical Insights: Little Women, and co-hosts the “Little Women 150” blog.
Phillips has received numerous awards, including the Ronald N. Gaches Lifetime Teaching Award (2016) and the Children’s Literature Association’s Mentoring Award (2020). She has held leadership roles, including President of the Children's Literature Association (2006) and Chair of the MLA’s Children's Literature Division (1999). She currently serves as Past President of the Louisa May Alcott Society.
Her recent work includes research on illustrations in classic children’s texts like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Kate Greenaway’s A Apple Pie. She teaches a graduate course on illustration and children’s literature at Hollins University.
