Anne Kühler

Anne Kühler is a full Professor of Legal Ethics and Legal Philosophy at the Institute for Legal Philosophy, Faculty of Law, University of Vienna, appointed in February 2023. She actively shapes academic discourse through leadership roles including co-spokesperson of the Vienna Centre for Migration & Law (since October 2024) and membership on the editorial board of RphZ – Rechtsphilosophie.

Research Focus: Her scholarship critically examines migration frameworks, human dignity, and climate justice through Kantian philosophical lenses. Recent initiatives include organizing the conference "Justice, Care, Responsibility: Rethinking the Family from a Legal and Philosophical Perspective" (February 2024) and the symposium "Freedom, Equality, and Human Dignity: Immanuel Kant and Gerhard Luf" (December 2024), culminating in her inaugural lecture "Nation, Community. On Belongings and Exclusions in Thinking about Migration" (March 2025).

Professional Service: She served as Managing Director of the Swiss Association for Legal and Social Philosophy (2013-2020) and Secretary General of the International Association for Legal and Social Philosophy (2019-2024), now continuing as Executive Committee member. Her administrative expertise extends to directing the Vienna Centre for Migration & Law's Opening Conference "Migration in Times of Polarization" (June 2025).

Teaching and Supervision: Professor Kühler supervises doctoral dissertations at the University of Vienna, requiring prospective students to initiate contact via email for supervision appointments. Her course offerings include seminars on "Climate Justice and the Law" (Winter Semester 2024).

Academic Trajectory: Prior to Vienna, she was senior assistant professor at University of Zurich (2012-2023) following clerkship at the Swiss Federal Administrative Court (2008-2012). She has held teaching positions across Swiss institutions including Basel, Lucerne, and St. Gallen, with research fellowships at Heidelberg's Max Planck Institute and Lucerne's Center for Constitutional Law of Religion.
