Dr. Anne Kustritz is an Assistant Professor in Media and Culture Studies at Utrecht University, affiliated with the Humanities Institute for Cultural Inquiry and the Department of Media and Culture Studies. Her research focuses on digital ethnography, queer representation, fan communities, and transmedia practices. She teaches courses on convergence cultures, gender studies, and media research methods at the BA and MA levels, including programs in Communication and Information Sciences, Film and Television Studies, and New Media & Digital Culture.

Dr. Kustritz has authored three monograph projects: A Multiplicity of Pleasures: Identity, Community, and Sexuality in Slash Fan Fiction's Pocket Publics, Remixed Eugenics: Race, Reproduction, and Genetic Technology, and Worldbuilding from the Outside In: Transformative Fan Works as Amateur Transmedia. She collaborates internationally on projects like the Fairy Tale Cultures and Media Today network and the Transmedia Serial Narration seminar.
Her awards include the 2021 Comics Studies Society’s “Best Edited Collection” award and grants from the SSHRC, Aspasia Foundation, and Rackham Graduate School. She serves on the editorial board of Transformative Works and Cultures, a journal supporting fan communities.
Dr. Kustritz’s research integrates critical legal studies, political economy, and intersectional frameworks to analyze media, digital economies, and identity politics in the context of resurgent fascism and digitization.
