Anne K. Salomon is a Distinguished Professor of Applied Marine Ecology and Social-Ecological System Science at Simon Fraser University’s School of Resource & Environmental Management. Her work focuses on understanding resilience in human-ocean relationships, integrating Indigenous knowledge systems, and addressing global environmental challenges through transdisciplinary collaboration. She holds a BSc from Queen’s University, an MSc from the University of British Columbia, and a PhD from the University of Washington.
Her research explores tipping points in kelp forests, small-scale fisheries resilience, and ancestral stewardship practices such as clam gardens. Salomon emphasizes co-production of knowledge with Indigenous communities, fishermen, and policymakers to democratize science and inform sustainable governance. Key projects include the Clam Garden Network and Coastal Voices initiative, which blend ecological science with cultural heritage preservation.
Recent research highlights include analyzing climate impacts on kelp carbon sinks, sea otter ecological dynamics, and equitable fisheries management. Her work underscores the importance of social-ecological systems in achieving environmental and social justice. Over 30+ publications since 2020 reflect her focus on coastal resilience, Indigenous-led conservation, and adaptive governance frameworks.
