Fiorenza Micheli is the David and Lucile Packard Professor of Marine Science at Stanford University, holding positions at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability and the Hopkins Marine Station. As Chair of the Oceans Department and co-director of the Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions, she leads research on marine communities, climate impacts, and conservation strategies. Her work spans kelp forests, coral reefs, and social-ecological systems, with field projects in Mexico, Italy, Palau, and California. Micheli investigates ocean acidification, hypoxia, and fisheries sustainability, emphasizing management solutions for marine ecosystems. She advises graduate students and postdocs, including research on shark ecology, ciguatera poisoning, and climate refugia. Recognized as a Pew Fellow and California Academy of Sciences Fellow, she collaborates with global initiatives like Seafood Watch and the Benioff Ocean Initiative. Her lab integrates ecological science with policy, promoting equitable and resilient ocean governance.
