Anne Jonas

Anne Jonas is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, Engineering, and Physics at the University of Michigan-Flint’s College of Innovation and Technology. She holds a PhD in Information Science from the University of California, Berkeley, and a BA in English Literatures and Cultures from Brown University. Her academic work bridges Human-Computer Interaction, Feminist STS, and Education, with a focus on power, equity, and care in digital learning environments.

Her research interests include Human-Computer Interaction, Qualitative Research, Digital Education, Feminist Science and Technology Studies, and Information Activism. She investigates how digital technologies shape social life, particularly in virtual schools and marginalized communities, using ethnographic and design-based methods.

Her recent publications explore distributed attunement in online classrooms, student agency in future classroom technologies, and information activism for LGBTQ+ youth. These works reflect a growing trend in critical and socially engaged HCI research focused on justice, inclusion, and structural inequality.

She is affiliated with research groups such as the Algorithmic Fairness and Opacity Working Group and the Biosense Initiative at UC Berkeley and completed a Designated Emphasis in Science and Technology Studies. Her public engagement includes advocacy on social media around digital rights, labor, and social justice.
