معرفی
Anne-Isabelle Richard is a University Lecturer at the Institute for History, Faculty of Humanities, Leiden University. She holds a PhD in history from the University of Cambridge and academic credentials from the University of Leiden, University of Edinburgh, University College London, and Yale University as a Fulbright Scholar.
Her research focuses on European and world history from transnational and trans-imperial perspectives, with particular interest in conceptualizing regions and examining how civil society actors negotiated alternatives to the nation state from the late nineteenth century onward. Her work argues for a global turn in European history while incorporating Europe into colonial and global historical narratives.
Richard's recent publications reveal a growing emphasis on addressing inequalities in global historical scholarship, examining South-South relations, and challenging Eurocentric perspectives. She has contributed to important debates about the accessibility of historical archives and the need for more inclusive global historical frameworks that incorporate perspectives from the Global South.
Her significant academic recognition includes:
- NWO Veni grant (2017-2022) for 'Eurafrica. African perspectives, 1917-1970s'
- NWO Rubicon Grant (2011-2013)
- Max Weber Fellowship (2010-2011)
- Fulbright Scholarship (2004-2005)
Richard serves in several leadership roles: co-editor-in-chief of Itinerario (Cambridge University Press), member of the editorial board of Revue Monde(s), co-chair of the Humanities Advisory Table of the Dutch Research Council (NWO), and co-chair of the steering committee of the European Network in Universal and Global History (ENIUGH). She currently co-supervises PhD candidate Peter Postma and welcomes prospective PhD students interested in European and global history, French history, African international history, European imperialism, and decolonization.
