Dr. Anne H. Bower is a Professor of Biology at the College of Life Sciences, specializing in interdisciplinary environmental research and medicinal botany. She holds a PhD and MS from the University of Florida's School of Forest Resources and Conservation, where her dissertation focused on cocoa agroforestry systems in Jamaica. Her BS from Beloit College earned cum laude honors with the Ding Darling Research Award.
Research encompasses:
- Phytomedicine: Clinical applications of herbs like turmeric, garlic, and lemon balm for chronic conditions
- Ecosystem Management: Conservation strategies for endangered species and invasive plant utilization
- Sustainable Technologies: Developing textile dyes from invasive species
- Global Food Systems: Agricultural consulting across Africa/Caribbean with USAID/Peace Corps
Teaching innovations funded by the National Science Foundation include field courses in Yellowstone, Jamaica, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Nicaragua covering Biodiversity, Ecology, and Medicinal Plants.
