Anne E. Duggan is a Professor of French and Chair of the Department of Classical and Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at Wayne State University, Michigan. She holds editorial roles as co-editor of Marvels & Tales: Journal of Fairy-Tale Studies and series editor of The Donald Haase Series in Fairy-Tale Studies at Wayne State University Press. Her expertise spans early modern French literature, fairy-tale studies, and gender studies.

Her research focuses on the intersection of fairy tales with gender, class, and socio-political contexts, particularly in French and European traditions. Recent work analyzes 17th-century salonnieres, 20th-century fairy-tale films, and the socio-political dimensions of animation. She explores themes like social justice in French engagé animation and the evolution of fairy tales across media and historical periods.
Her publications include The Lost Princess: Women Writers and the History of Classic Fairy Tales (2023) and edited volumes on 18th-century fairy-tale cultural history. Current projects include a book on French engagé animation, examining films by directors like Paul Grimault and Jacques Prévert.
Teaching emphasizes feminist literary history, fairy-tale analysis, and French language through cinema. Courses include Understanding the Fairy Tale and Renaissance to Revolution.
