Dr. Anne Casey is a Casual Academic (Part-Time Lecturer) at the School of Communications within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). She holds a PhD in archival poetry and poetics of resistance from UTS, an honours Law Degree from University College Dublin, and media communications qualifications from Technological University Dublin. Her research focuses on reviving lost histories through creative writing, particularly the second-wave impact of the Great Irish Famine in Australia.
Her academic and creative work spans poetry, journalism, and legal publishing, with six poetry collections to her name, including the light we cannot see (2021) and Some Days The Bird (2022, co-authored with Heather Bourbeau). She has received over 30 international awards, including the Distinguished Creative Arts Doctoral Student Award and the 2021 iWoman Global Award for Literature.
Professionally, she has held senior roles in government (Enterprise Ireland-Australia/New Zealand) and the private sector (PricewaterhouseCoopers, CCH international legal publishers). She currently serves as a Senior Poetry Editor for literary journals and is a founding member of The Prankqueans, an Irish-Australian women’s arts ensemble recognized by the New South Wales Parliament.
Her poetry explores themes of displacement, cultural identity, and historical memory, with works featured in The Irish Times, The London Magazine, and Australian Poetry Anthology. Upcoming projects include a sixth poetry collection derived from her doctoral research, set for 2025.
