Annabelle Hofer

Annabelle Hofer is a Junior Professor of Organizational Behavior at the University of Cologne's Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences (WiSo Faculty), appointed in September 2022. She serves as an Investigator and Cluster member in the ECONtribute: Markets & Public Policy Cluster of Excellence since 2023, contributing to the Key Research Initiative in Behavioral Management Science (BMS) within the university's Core Profile Area of Social and Economic Behavior.

Her research focuses on sustainable organizational behavior and human resource management, with particular emphasis on precarious work, gig economy dynamics, career insecurity, and sustainable career development. Dr. Hofer investigates how employees navigate work and career-related insecurities in modern labor markets, examining the psychological impacts of precarious work arrangements and new forms of employment.

Dr. Hofer's publications reveal a strong research trajectory in career psychology, with recent work exploring multidimensional career insecurity, the psychological effects of competitive workplace climates, and how career shocks impact professional optimism. Her research bridges organizational psychology with practical HR management applications, contributing significantly to understanding worker management in contemporary organizations.

Her academic journey includes a postdoctoral position at Bern University of Teacher Education and teaching roles at multiple Swiss institutions between 2019-2022. She completed her PhD in Work and Organizational Psychology at the University of Bern in 2019, following Master's and Bachelor's degrees in Psychology from Trier University in Germany.
