Annabelle Edwards is a Research Fellow at Lancaster Medical School, Lancaster University. A cultural geographer, she investigates the relationships between health, place, and identity. Her current Wellcome Trust-funded research examines prescribed activities for mental wellbeing, with data collection in 2024-2025. She teaches modules on therapeutic geographies and chronic pain.
Her research interests include therapeutic landscapes, social prescribing, and the role of environment in mental health. She employs qualitative and post-phenomenological approaches to understand how everyday places shape wellbeing, particularly for vulnerable populations.
Recent publications reveal a focus on health resilience in disadvantaged areas, urban ecosystems for health, and the experiential aspects of therapeutic landscapes. Her work bridges geography, public health, and social policy to address health inequities.

She leads projects on socially-prescribed activities and therapeutic landscapes, funded by Wellcome Trust and ESRC. Her teaching includes Special Study Module 2 and Health Culture and Society 3 at the Medical School, alongside past courses in Human Geography and Sociology.
Dr. Edwards collaborates within the Interdisciplinary network in culture, health, ethics and society, promoting cross-disciplinary research on health and place.
